PVC-baerlocher Baerlocher has invested USD 30 million in its Indian subsidiary, doubling its existing capacity by 2021 with phase one due for completion in mid-2019.

Supporting Buoyant Indian Plastics Industry

Already India’s largest PVC stabilizer producer, this investment demonstrates the company’s commitment to the buoyant Indian plastics industry, supporting its growth and providing choice for convertors to enable their transition towards sustainable Calcium based stabilizer systems for all PVC applications.

Metal stearates production will be further expanded as well as warehousing facilities and a state of the art research and development laboratory will be established.

Baerlocher’s plant in Dewas, near Indore in Madhya Pradesh, was purchased in 1999 from National Peroxide — a milestone that marked the beginning of the Baerlocher Group of Companies presence in India.

Twenty years later, the company has the most diverse product range for all PVC as well as CPVC applications, producing various intermediates, Lead based and Calcium based solid one pack PVC stabilizers, as well as a wide range of liquid stabilizers.

World Class Manufacturing Facility for Calcium-based Stabilizers

Already phase one of the expansion including a new warehouse and an immediate increase to its Lead and Calcium based stabilizer production capacity is in the final phase of construction and will be commissioned by mid-2019. A recent acquisition of 25 acres of adjacent land to the current facility will provide the footprint for the next phase of expansion which will accommodate a world class manufacturing facility dedicated to producing only Calcium based stabilizers and metal stearates.

Increasing Demand of Environmentally Sustainable Solutions

With the demand for PVC in India growing annually by 7-8%, driven by growth in agricultural and infrastructure sectors, this investment shows our commitment to our customers and supports the country’s ‘Make in India’ program, said Jayen Modi, Managing Director of Baerlocher India.

Arne Schulle, CEO of the Baerlocher Group of Companies commented, “The pressure upon the plastics industry to find environmentally sustainable solutions extends to all corners of the globe”
adding “Baerlocher is at the forefront with established value-oriented solutions and is committed to extend the same support to our customers in India”.

The PVC industry globally is under varying stages of transition to more sustainable additive solutions and we are positioned locally in all regions to support these goals” added Andy Jones Global Head of the Strategic business unit - PVC Additives “Our entire global network of manufacturing excellence and solution providing capability in supporting this technology change is at Baerlocher India’s disposal”.

Reliable Supplier of Non-Dusting Lead Stabilizers

Jayen Modi added “With our new capacity in 2019, we will remain as a reliable supplier of non-dusting Lead stabilizers and Liquid mixed metal stabilizers with room to grow further in these sectors, however, a range of exciting new product forms for Calcium based systems will be available to our customers for the first time in mid-2019”.

Baerlocher will add new production lines for metal stearates coming onstream in 2021 to serve captive demand for PVC stabilizers and to support sales of metal soaps to other industries. Baerlocher India is one of the leading suppliers of stabilizers and additives for the plastics industry in Asia. In the PVC sector, the focus is on manufacturers of pipes, cables and window profiles. Customers for metal soaps include the polymer upstream, downstream, master batch and compounding as well as many specialty applications such as paints, construction, personal care and pharmaceuticals.
