Crompton introduces new slip agents and coupling agent

Crompton Corporation has introduced two new vegetable-based agents that impart slip and anti-block properties in thermoplastic resins. The company says that Kemamide® ELO and Kemamide® VO agents satisfy a market preference for vegetable-based materials compared to animal-derived slip agents.

Kemamide ELO slip agent is a high-performance torque release agent that minimizes the taste and odour effects of ozone sterilization. Kemamide ELO has no fatty acid chains to react to ozone and heat, making it very stable in bottle cap and related applications.

Kemamide VO slip agent is a GMO-free material that offers an economical alternative to animal-based and other vegetable-based agents. Its low cost makes it an excellent value for a wide range of products.

A polymer additive from Crompton Corporation is also improving the processing and performance of wood-filled composites. These building materials are an increasingly popular alternative to natural wood in decking, fencing and other applications, claims the company. They also offer an effective way to recycle sawmill byproducts.

Polybond® coupling agents with enhanced performance characteristics make possible new materials in advanced markets such as wood-filled compounds. They bind composite materials to the extent that wood replacement materials have performance benefits including increased toughness, impact strength, and weatherability that are similar to � if not better than � natural wood.

Polybond 3109 coupling agent consists of LLDPE grafted with 1% maleic anhydride. It has an MFI of 30 g/10 min. This higher flow results in easier mixing and enhanced performance in wood-filled compounds. Addition of 5% Polybond 60% ATH-filled LLDPE boosts tensile strength 45% and notched Izod impact 550%.
