In April, three Thomas Swan products were approved by the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) BioPreferred® program.
Thomas Swan's Casamod™ 450 (72% biobased), Casamod™ 550, and Casamod™ 650 (97% biobased) are additives used in the synthetic rubber industry. These products can now display a unique USDA label indicating the percentage of biobased content in each product.
Exploring New Ways to Advance Sustainability Efforts
Third-party verification for a product's biobased content is administered through the USDA BioPreferred® program, which aims to increase the development, purchase, and use of biobased products.

The USDA Certified Biobased Product Label displays a product's biobased content, which is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable source, such as plant, animal, marine, or forestry feedstocks. Utilising renewable biobased materials displaces the need for non-renewable petroleum-based chemicals. Biobased products are cost-comparative, readily available, and perform as well as or better than their conventional counterparts.
