Flame Retardants / Smoke Suppressants > Antimony Oxides
Antimony oxide is a dry white powder very often used synergistically with halogenated flame retardants. In cases where polymers do not contain chlorine, adding a halogenated compound to antimony oxides becomes necessary so as to provide them flame retardancy. Antimony oxides are used with polymers like polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polybutylene terephthalate and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. Some antimony compounds that are used as flame retardants are antimony trioxide, antimony pentoxide and antimony-metal compounds.
