Hindered amines light stabilizers(HALS) do not absorb UV radiation, but act as antioxidants to inhibit or slow down the photochemical degradation of the polymer. While adding HALS to polymers, significant levels of stabilization are achieved at relatively low concentrations. Among other applications, HALS are employed in packaging industries where transparent packaging may have to withstand prolonged outdoor exposures and for U.V stabilization of colored polyolefin pipes as they are stored in outdoors till the time of installation.
