Nucleating Agents

Nucleating agents are inorganic materials added to polymers to increase the crystallinity and shorten the cycle times. They speed up the transition from melted to solid material. Changing the crystallinity of plastics changes properties like density and clarity. Adding nucleating agents alter polypropylene properties like stiffness and crystallization rate. Chemical derivatives of benzoic acid are known to be the most effective nucleating agents. Some common nucleating agents are inert mineral fillers like kaolin, chalk, clay etc.
