Irgatec® CR 25

Irgatec® CR 25 by BASF is a polymer modifier for polypropylene. It allows a controlled modification of polypropylene during processing, leading to improved barrier and mechanical properties of PP spunbond nonwoven, in particular meltblown products. It is highly efficient at processing temperatures exceeding 250°C and is an efficient radical generator for the controlled degradation of polypropylene. It is an alternative to peroxide-based modifiers for PP. It is available as a pre-dispersed concentrate in a suitable carrier, which ensures a homogeneous distribution during extrusion. It can slightly increase the melt flow and offers broader thermo-bonding window leading to improved process stability and less energy consumption. Possible applications include crosslinking of polyethylene, grafting of unsaturated monomers onto polyolefins and radical-assisted reactive extrusion processes. Recommended concentrations of Irgatec® CR 25 for meltblown PP is 0.5-2%.
