Tetrabromobisphenol A. It acts as a brominated aromatic flame retardant used in thermoplastic and thermoset resin systems. It also acts as an intermediate to make other flame retardants. Brominated carbonate oligomers (which uses TBBA as a raw material) are used to flame retard thermoplastic resin systems such as polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and certain grades of polycarbonate (PC). It is widely used in the manufacture of printed circuit boards found in most electrical appliances.
