EcoDesign Combine the 3 E Ecology, Economy, Environment

SpecialChem / Jul 11, 2008

Up-to-date trends in polymer industry include the respect of environment, ecology requirements and economy of resources and energy. The manufacture, use and disposal of polymers build a complex context whose optimization needs much thought to develop an overall and intelligent strategy as soon as the designing step. The environment being taken in its large sense including land, sea, air, plants, animals, and all the biotic and abiotic factors, Ecology can be shortly defined in the framework of this paper as the study of the detrimental and beneficial effects of the use of industrial polymers on the environment, with a view toward its prevention and conservation.Abiotic environmental factors include sunlight, soil, air, water, climate, and pollution. Economy is a way leading to savings of resources, raw materials, energy during all the lifecycle of polymer products. Briefly, the situation can be oversimplified as follows "To-day acts mustn't compromise the environment of the planet for to-morrow" or "present acts mustn't compromise the needs of future generations".
