Oxo-degradation : A Simmering Debate

Donald Rosato – Sep 7, 2016

oxo-biodegradable plasticFew plastics additives attract as much controversy within the plastics industry as oxo-degradable products. The war of words within the plastics and bioplastics industry regarding the use of Hydro-Biodegradable Plastics (HBP) versus Oxo-Biodegradable Plastics (OBP) continues.

Various trade bodies, organizations, universities, environmentalists and industry experts have weighed-in leveling a series of negative allegations regarding sectors of the bioplastics industry, with suppliers and technology companies on both sides of the issue entering the fray.

Which side are you on?

Where would be the fight or doubts when we know that there are standards that test the conformity of oxobiodegradable plastics. The frustrated attempts by their competitors that insists to fight an environment-based solution that even conventional plastics does not has. What do you prefer? Plastic pollution or oxobiodegradable plastics that really biodegrades in conformity with standards?

Oxo- BIOdegradation was proved to work very well. Several universities , laboratories, independent institutes already tested oxo-biodegradation and all them shows the same result...that the technology works very well. There is space for both technologies. Oxo-biodegradation is intended to be used in regular plastics that can unfortunately end as litter as plastic bags, cups, trays, straws. Plastics with oxo-biodegradation additives could deal with the litter problem that is the biggest reason environmental groups ask for banning plastic.
