Lonza antimicrobials are used to increase the useful life of plastic parts and have been proven effective against micro-organisms in a variety of applications at cost-effective use levels.

Prevent Polyurethane from degradation with Lonza antimicrobials

Moisture and organic matter in and on a polyurethane matrix may provide all requirements for microbial growth: organic matter can collect on the PU surface and provide nutrition for microorganisms.

Some polyurethane based polymers can provide all the required nutrients for microorganisms to flourish; some do not. Those polyurethanes that do not supply nutrients for micro-organisms will still accumulate organic matter and moisture from the end-use-environment. Both cases will benefit from the addition of an antimicrobial.

The direct consequence of such growth for PU applications is a degradation of the aesthetics, with appearance of stains, unsightly growth and unpleasant odors.
