GCR Group has added new grades to its Granic mineral masterbatch portfolio. The new BioGranic grades are based on special high quality minerals in a compostable resin carrier.

BioGranic Contributes to Increase the Competitiveness of Compostable Products

Biodegradable and compostable resins by GCR Group

  • Improving mechanical performance: Properties such as impact resistance, tear resistance and stiffness can be improved by the use of mineral fillers.

  • Processability: BioGranic can be added to the formulation without the need of substantially modifying the processing conditions. The high thermoconductivity of the minerals allows for a more stable processing at low temperatures.

  • Formulation cost can be reduced by the use of BioGranic: This allows compostable resins to be more competitive in comparison with traditional materials.

Biodegradable and compostable resins have experienced a considerable growth in the last years, gaining a lot of interest for certain applications, especially where compostability is considered a plus. Besides this, heavier regulations and restrictions on light and disposable plastic items have been or are being implemented in many countries all over the world, allowing compostable resins to take a continuously growing market share.

However, a few aspects of compostable resins could still be improved in order to reach a deeper penetration of these resins into the market. For example, by using mineral masterbatch fillers in these resins.

Two Different Grades of BioGranic

  • One for flexible applications (shopping bags, refuse bags, ultra-light bags, agricultural film, flexible packaging, extrusion coating…)

  • And other for rigid applications (thermoformed cups and capsules, disposable tableware, agricultural items…).

Moreover, BioGranic is OK Compost HOME and OK Compost INDUSTRIAL certified under TÜV-Austria schemes.
