Silvergate Plastics has released a 30 percent recycled content masterbatch into the market. The technology is now available in any color across the spectrum.
New Range to Support Plastic Packaging Producers
The range will support plastic packaging producers directly affected by the UK government’s proposed plastic packaging tax, planned to come into effect in April 2022.
Commenting on the technical advancements used to create this range, Silvergate’s technical manager, Mark Loughlin, said, “
Since the government announced its intention to apply a tax on plastic packaging, we have been developing new technologies that support packaging manufacturers and the plastic industry as a whole.”
High-quality Recyclates Ensure Better Performance
To ensure the best possible solution, Silvergate developed a prime performance solution such that neither the properties of the masterbatch nor molding polymer would be affected by the use of recycled raw materials. The company identified high-quality recyclates and developed a robust formulation to ensure the range performs like prime materials.
Initially, a white masterbatch was developed that performs like a virgin product. After its market success, Silvergate quickly expanded into other colors and successfully incorporated recyclates into the formulations of any color.
