Mark® 17 M

Butyltin mercaptide. Acts as heat stabilizer. In the melt, organotin stabilized PVC has the tendency to stick to hot metal parts and, therefore, the choice and concentration of external lubricants is particularly important. In rigid PVC processing the addition of external lubricants such as montan waxes or complex esters (0.2 - 0.5 phr), PE waxes or oxidized PE waxes (0.05 - 0.1 phr) give good results whereas stearic acid as external lubricant may reduce the efficiency of the stabilizer. The internal lubricants at concentrations of 0.5 - 2.0 phr are added to rigid PVC formulations, it is recommended to use low molecular esters such as Drapex® 39 as it is highly compatible with PVC. Used in almost every PVC processing method. It confers very good initial color and long term heat stability in rigid and plasticized PVC as well as in plastisols. It is effective in all types of PVC such as emulsion, suspension or mass PVC or vinyl chloride copolymers. Can give highly transparent finished articles if a suitable type of PVC and lubricating system are chosen. Mark® 17 M is used in plasticized PVC formulations, the addition of internal lubricants is not required here. It is also used in the stabilization of plastisols, the finished article does not show any pinkish discoloration when stored for long periods at elevated temperature as it may occur with metal soaps.
