Gum rosin. Acts as a tackifier and plasticizer. Is a thermoplastic, acidic resin. Has a high softening point and amber color. Is a product of the naval stores industry obtained during the separation, refining of resins and terpenes extracted from pinewood. Is composed of rosin-type resin acids, oxidized and modified forms of these resins, neutral as well as colored constituents associated with dark rosin. It is suggested as a close replacement for gum rosin type products.
