CRATEC® Chopped Strands 163D

CRATEC® Chopped Strands 163D by Owens Corning is a collection of continuous glass filaments gathered into a single bundle. High performance chemistry is applied to optimize glass/matrix adhesion and provide excellent bundle integrity. Low fuzz levels with 163D CRATEC Chopped Strands significantly diminish the formation of unwetted fuzz clumps which can cause weak areas in the molded laminate. Its low solubility in unsaturated polyester helps maintain bundle integrity which can enhance mechanical properties. WorkS well in both compression- or injected-molded laminates, but are designed for injection molding where shear will promote dispersion. Exhibits excellent mechanical properties, such as tensile strength, notched Izod and Charpy impact strengths. Offers high fiber integrity and good mold flowability which allows for the use of longer fiber lengths to achieve higher mechanical properties. Provides good composite properties in epoxy or phenolic molding compounds and in dry-blended phenolic friction applications. CRATEC® Chopped Strands 163D is suitable for use in unsaturated polyester bulk molding compound (BMC) and compression-molded BMC.
