Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate. It acts as a plasticizer. It is a light colored, non-toxic syrupy liquid that is used for many resins and elastomers. It is slightly soluble in water but soluble in alcohols, hexane etc., and is miscible as well as compatible with all the monomeric plasticizers of PVC compounding. It is cost effective and is used for making PVC soft and pliable for applications in the automotive industry, the manufacturing of building and construction materials, cable and flooring, as well as medical devices and toys. Also used in the production of raincoats, vinyl upholstery, shoes, garden hoses, swimming pool liners etc.
