Based on HSP Distance

Products Compatibility & HSP Distance

Hansen Solubility Parameters (HSP) helps to predict the compatibility of ingredients.

It is based upon the “like seeks like” principle. It splits an ingredients interactions into three parameters :
- δD (Dispersion force interactions)
- δP (Polar forces interactions)
- δH (Hydrogen bond force interactions).

If ingredients have matching HSP’s (distance=0) then they will be completely compatible. If there is a small distance between them then they are predicted to have good but not perfect compatibility. As the HSP distance gets larger the ingredients will become more incompatible.

In general, ingredients having an HSP distance below 2 will have good compatibility. Between 2 and 4, you will have medium compatibility. Above 4, you will have limited to no compatibility.

Most HSP values used to calculate the distance are estimates. Information provided below is to be used as an indication of compatibility.

Stan-Tone™

Polymers additives supplied by Avient Formerly PolyOne

Stan-Tone™ from Avient Corporation is a range of colorant and additive dispersions for a variety of polymers. These dispersions can help enhance aesthetics or improve processing efficiency across a wide variety of markets and applications, including industrial goods, composites, laminates, calendaring, toys & sporting good, etc.
  • Stan-Tone™ HCC vinyl paste colorants pigments dispersed in diisodecyl phthalate plasticizer (DIDP) and are designed for applications in which dispersion, uniformity and compatibility are essential.
  • Stan-Tone™ PEP polyester urethane paste colorants pigments dispersed in diethylene glycol adipate and they are reactive and compatible with polyester systems.
  • Stan-Tone™ ET polyether urethane paste colorants pigments dispersed in a polyether polyol and they are compatible with polyether systems.
  • Stan-Tone™ WDN water dispersions are high-solids organic or inorganic pigment dispersions containing alkali-stabilized acrylic resin, pigments, water and a small amount of nonmetallic preservative.
  • Stan-Tone™ VC and VCP colorants are based on single pigment or multi-pigment blends and suitable for rigid and flexible vinyl extrusion, injection molding and calendaring processes.
  • Stan-Tone™ EPX epoxy paste colorants are pigments dispersed in a Bisphenol A undiluted epoxy resin with an epoxide equivalent of 185.
  • Stan-Tone™ SMB colors consists of organic and inorganic pigments dispersed in a silicone elastomer.
