Bruggemann New stabilizers for Circular Plastic Economy
L. Bruggemann expands its portfolio by providing with the new category of stabilizers for high quality polyolefin recyclates a solution for the Circular Plastic Economy
In addition to its broad polymer additive portfolio for polyamides and polyesters, Bruggemann has a new focus on high-quality polyolefin recyclates or high-quality polyolefin recyclates.
Polyolefines are currently recycled with many state of the art additives. However, using these additives results in recyclates whose properties are inferior to those of prime polyolefines. Bruggemann has, together with the LBF Institute, developed a new repair technology consisting of novel chemical system for recycling polyolefins. The resultant recyclates from this technology exhibit mechanical properties that are far superior to those obtained by using currently available, state of the art additives.
New generation of stabilizers creating a difference in plastics recycling
Processing, application and grinding of polyolefins degrade the properties of the polymer. Using this new technology allows to repair damages and protects the polymer for further application.
Which polymers are in the focus?
Bruggemann started its recycling additive development on improving the performance of polypropylene from used battery cases. Recently new BRUGGOLEN® R products also target the recycling of all post-industrial and post-consumer polypropylene and polyethylene waste streams.
Bruggemann’s new technology recycling package:
The graph below demonstrates the improved processing stability as constant MVR values after multiple extrusion with the addition of the new stabilizer package, BRUGGOLEN® R8895, to polypropylene from battery cases.
Using BRUGGOLEN® TP R-2162 for polyethylene recyclates improves the mechanical properties of films extruded from these recyclates. While standard additivation leads to many defects in the films, the new repair and restabilization technology reduces the number of defects significantly.
