Break the Bottleneck with the Right Process Aid: Surface Defects, Flow Problems, Resin Incompatibilities? This Process Aid Can Help!

SpecialChem / Robert Brentin – Jun 19, 2012

The SureFlo® process aid is a blend of chemically and physically modified hydrocarbon resins specifically designed to improve processing of thermoplastic resins such as polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene, ABS, and nylon. The material is in pellet form so it can be added directly at the machine. Use levels are in the 4-5% range which results in little to no physical property sacrifice. Price per pound is generally below that of prime resin but above regrind. It is noted that the SureFlo® product is currently available in black only although a natural grade is already in development.

SureFlo® has been designed to improve several key areas of resin processing, including:

  • Compatibilizing dissimilar resins through its unique chemical structure
  • Improving flow / increasing line speed for sheet due to its ability to reduce viscosity
  • Decreasing cycle time as a result of cooler processing temperatures
  • Allowing processing at lower temperatures and pressures.
