With “sustainability” being the key focus of the industry, the suppliers have also put-in efforts to make their product offerings more sustainable and in line with the current requirements. These include additives that help reduce carbon footprint, eco-friendly alternatives to fossil-based counterparts, additives that aid in recycling and more.

BASF's breakthrough in catalysts:
- CircleStar™, an innovative dehydration catalyst to process renewable feedstocks. This novel star-shaped catalyst achieves a 99.5% selectivity for the ethanol-to-ethylene (E2E) conversion and helps to decrease the carbon footprint in the bio-ethylene value chain for products ranging from jet fuel to plastics
- Fourtitude™, a new Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) catalyst designed to maximize butylenes from resid feedstocks. Fourtitude™, the latest product based on BASF’s multiple framework topology (MFT) technology, is optimized to deliver superior selectivity to butylenes while maintaining catalyst activity
- PuriCycle®, a new line of advanced high-performance products for the purification of most complex waste plastics pyrolysis feeds. The portfolio includes novel catalysts and adsorbents developed to selectively remove or convert a wide range of impurities in pyrolysis oils and enable downstream processing of circular plastics streams
Evonik replaces fossil-based raw materials:
- POLYVEST® eCO from Evonik, a new range of sustainable liquid polybutadienes. The use of sustainably produced butadiene in the manufacture of this innovative product line has been shown to reduce the use of fossil raw materials by up to 99.9%

VESTA eCO series from Evonik is an isophorone- based product series made using renewable acetone. The new VESTA eCO series products have significantly lower CO2 footprint across all stages of the isophorone production chain
UBE launched DAXSOL dimethyl carbonate, an environmentally-friendly solvent with low toxicity and rapid biodegradability recommended for replacing non-sustainable polar solvents, such as ketones, esters, and glycols
SI Group unveiled its EVERCYCLE™ additives platform for plastics recycling at the K 2022 exhibition in Düsseldorf, Germany. Sukano and Emery Oleochemicals announces the launch of their jointly developed PET antifogging compound for direct food contact PET packaging. The compound additive was tested in PET lidding films applications, PET clam shells and thermoformed lids and trays. The final parts were then shredded, ground, washed and submitted to additional heating conditions, simulating the critical recycling steps of a PET tray dedicated recycling stream according to the PETCORE TCEP protocol

- The new HDMax® catalysts and Clarit™ adsorbents are designed for the purification of pyrolysis oil made from hard-to-recycle mixed plastic waste

Perstorp introduced 2-Ethylhexanol based on 25% renewable raw material according to a traceable mass balance concept. 2-EH Pro 25 is designed to reduce the carbon footprint throughout the value chain where it is used to support sustainable sourcing of renewable and recycled raw materials
Borealis is strengthened its EverMinds™ circular product offering with Borvida™, a range of sustainable base chemicals. The Borvida™ portfolio will offer base chemicals or cracker products (such as ethylene, propylene, butene and phenol) with ISCC Plus-certified sustainable content from Borealis sites in Finland, Sweden and Belgium
Avient Corporation introduced new polyolefin antioxidants, Cesa™ Nox A4R additives for recycling and PCR color prediction service for polyolefins and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resins
Toray Industries developed the world’s first 100% bio-based adipic acid, a raw material for nylon 66 (polyamide 66), from sugars derived from inedible biomass.
WACKER introduced an additive masterbatch for polyethylene compounding at K 2022. Marketed as GENIOPLAST® PE50S08, this silicone product makes it easier to manufacture ready-to-use polyethylene molding compounds. This polyethylene masterbatch can be used for extruding films or for improved processing of recycled polyethylene compounds
Brüggemann developed three new additives for improved polymer recycling. These additives include BRUGGOLEN® TP-R2090, BRUGGOLEN® TP-R2162 and BRUGGOLEN® TP-R8895 resulting in recyclates with very good mechanical and processing properties, making the need for the addition of virgin material unnecessary
INEOS Phenol launched INVIRIDIS™, a bio-attributed product line for phenol, acetone alphamethylstyrene (AMS). These products are made without using fossil fuels as feedstock.
