Evonik has introduced two new grades of precipitated silica for use as antiblocking agents: SPHERILEX® 60 AB and SPHERILEX® 30 AB.
Antiblocking agents are essential additives in the production of plastic films. These additives help facilitate film winding operations and improve the handling properties of films during subsequent processing.
New Grades Enables Efficient Antiblocking in Blown and Cast Films
Both SPHERILEX® grades are produced using a new, patented manufacturing process that simultaneously allows spherical particle shape, controlled particle size, and narrow particle size distribution to be achieved.

SPHERILEX® 60 AB was developed for standard films based on PE and PP,

SPHERILEX® 30 AB is specially designed for very thin films such as biaxially oriented films.
This combination of product properties mentioned above enables the application as a highly efficient antiblocking agent in blown and cast films including polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and polyamide (PA).
Silica-based Matting Agents
Evonik is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of silica. In addition to the fumed silica AEROSIL® and the precipitated silica ULTRASIL®, SIPERNAT®, ZEODENT® and SPHERILEX®, Evonik also produces silica-based matting agents under the brand name ACEMATT® and other fumed metal oxides under the brand AEROXIDE®. Overall, Evonik has a global production capacity for all silica based products of about 1 million metric tons per year.
