Polyglykol M 500

Polyglykol M 500 by Clariant is a linear, mono hydroxy-functional polyethylene glycol monomethyl ether (M-PEG). It has low diol content to limit formation of crosslinking diesters. When reacted with unsaturated monomers like acrylic or methacrylic acid, esters are formed which can be copolymerized in order to increase hydrophilicity and improves dispersing properties of polymers in water. Moreover, it is esterified with methacrylic acid to yield the corresponding polyglycol mono methacrylates, which are used for the polymerization of polycarboxylate super-plasticizers. Polyglykol M 500 is soluble in water, polar organic solvents like acetone or methanol and is insoluble in pure hydrocarbons.
