Additives for low energy processesII – Versatility and efficiency of some processing aids and similar additives

Energy saving decreases pollution and fuel consumption, thus saving money and enhancing environment. Specially, the moulding and extrusion need a high energy for plasticization, pressure increase, heating and cooling, and mechanical work. A previous paper has examined the general ways and this new one will deal with examples of the versatility, efficiency and detailed features related to processing aids and other similar additives having a collateral effect on flow and other parameters improving the energy efficiency. Without claiming to be exhaustive, let us quote low molecular weight polymers, molecular weight depressors, Polymer Processing Aids (PPA), waxes, polyethylene oligomers, modified polyethylene, polypropylene, metallocene polyolefin, liquid polymers, silicones, fluoropolymers, CBT, internal & external lubricants, plasticizers (esters, mineral oils, vegetable oils and derivatives, reactive, sustainable), soaps and other fatty acid derivatives, mineral additives (fillers, boron nitride), titanates, packages....
